Resource Permissions
From ResourceSpace Documentation Wiki
Access control via access modes
There are four access modes that can be set on resources:
- Open: everyone can see and download
- Restricted: everyone can see but download is restricted, except admin (specifically, those with the 'v' permission). You can define which image sizes (if any) can be downloaded in System Setup for this access level.
- Confidential: nobody can see except admin (specifically, those with the 'v' permission)
- Custom: you can set any of the above statuses for specific user groups, so different groups have different levels of access to the resources. Note: in some cases using metadata filtering (below) will be easier to manage.
Note that removing the 'g' permission from a non-admin usergroup will cause users in that group to see 'open' resources as if they are 'restricted'. This provides an easy way to set up blanket restricted access for a specific group.
Access control via metadata filtering
It is also possible to use predefined filters, set on the user group record, to determine a group's access based on metadata instead of or in addition to the above access modes. For example, you could set that a given group can only access resources where the country field is set to 'Africa'. Specific metadata fields could be generated purely for access control, if appropriate.
Permissions relating to editing and deleting
The above 'access' permission controls general availability of the resource and downloadable files, and does not control edit and delete access. Edit access is controlled via user group permissions and optionally the 'edit filter' setting on the user group. See the User Group Management section for more details.
